Charity Spotlight: Citymeals on Wheels

Citymeals on Wheels provides a continuous lifeline of nourishing meals and vital companionship, helping our meal recipients live with dignity in their own familiar homes and communities. We deliver over 2 million meals annually to more than 18,000 homebound elderly New Yorkers who can no longer shop or cook for themselves. Since 1981, Citymeals has delivered more than 58 million weekend, holiday and emergency meals to our frail aged neighbors

New York City is home to 1.4 million people over the age of 60. 1 in 10 seniors is food insecure – lacking reliable access to affordable and nutritious food.

Without the help of thousands of caring and dedicated volunteers, Citymeals could not serve the thousands of homebound elderly New Yorkers who rely on us. Last year, nearly 25,000 volunteers gave more than 80,000 hours of service to support them and advance our mission. As a testament to our city’s kindness, we also saw a nearly 20% increase in volunteers. Citymeals has volunteer opportunities to fit all schedules, from delivering meals on weekends to supporting our Friendly Visiting, Senior Script and Senior Chat programs.
