NEW YORK – September 13, 2021
Portfolios with Purpose has announced this year’s winners
of The PwP Fellowship — a program designed to diversify the industry and empower historically
underrepresented young investors including those who identify as Black, LatinX, and female.
The two-week instructor-led program covers the fundamentals of investing and portfolio
management and garnered nearly 300 applicants with educational backgrounds spanning
Economics, Business, History, Computer Science, and more.
A total of 109 students were shortlisted to participate, representing 64 colleges and universities
across HBCU, Ivy league, and City School networks including CUNY, Harvard, Howard, NYU, and
Virginia Tech.
Upon completion of the Fellowship, students participated in a fantasy stock contest where they
could apply their skills and build a one-million-dollar portfolio. The top 3 students with the
highest return each received a $1k educational stipend provided by the program sponsor,
Brown Advisory.
Daniela Machado, a Fellowship winner says, “After participating in the Fellowship program, I
feel more confident about investing, and making it a part of my everyday routine.” In a recent
Fellowship survey, more than 89% of the students felt more confident about investing and
100% of the participating students would recommend the program to a peer.
